Rising Glen I

Location Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles
Year 2022
Status Completed
Type New Construction

Rising Glen I is a two-story hillside contemporary at 1461 Rising Glen Road, composed of cedar and teak warmth, gray stucco mass, and matte black detail. The architecture is organized around a sequence of cantilevered roof planes that frame the view as you move through the home — a slow reveal of the city below, paced by the geometry of the structure itself.

Inside, the public level opens around a dramatic dining moment: a glass table set beneath a vertical rain of more than twenty pendant lights, with a rosewood-and-ebony kitchen anchored by a floating travertine waterfall island. Wide-plank flooring, full-height glazing, and clean ceiling planes hold the materials in disciplined balance. The living spaces extend through sliding glass walls onto a pool deck that reads as an extension of the floor.

Upstairs, the primary suite captures the full panoramic span of the Los Angeles basin — city lights to the south, hillside to the east — with a dedicated terrace and a primary bath finished in honed stone. The rooftop is its own program: a putting green, fire feature, and 360-degree view perch. Rising Glen I is among the practice's most ambitious projects — and a clear statement of NERA's approach to architecturally significant hillside development.
